Anzac Day Saturday the 25th of April 2015 – the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the ANZAC Legend.
This morning I proudly stood with my family under threatening skies in the dark at the Epping RSL Dawn Service in Victoria. I looked around at the crowd, estimated to be in the vicinity of 5,000, and it was both heartening and humbling to see that a big percentage of the people were of the younger generation – a lot of whom had young families.
Not many around me were wearing Medals on their left breast but several were wearing Medals on their right breast in memory of loved ones who had served.
Half way through the Service it began to rain lightly but no one left … even those without umbrellas stood their ground. It was still raining after the Service had ended, but still there was no mass exodus, with many visiting the memorial before entering the RSL itself.
It is good to see that the Spirit of ANZAC is alive and well.
