‘We are a not for profit, non-aligned group of like-minded people who have the needs and welfare of orphans and impoverished people in Viet Nam at heart.
We will work compassionately to see to those needs by providing food, clothing, medicines and necessities.
We will identify the need for larger projects and work to facilitate an outcome’.

“Operation Viet Nam Compassion” Overview
Your generous support enables the SAVCG to assist over 500 orphan and needy children at 4 Orphanages in places where Australians served during the Viet Nam War. We also assist impoverished persons in the Nui Dat area.
All goods are purchased locally and from multiple merchants which greater benefits the local community.
The Group has been carrying on this work since 2002 and is extremely proud of its efforts, as 92% of all monies raised goes to Viet Nam – There are NO middlemen, NO kickbacks, NO paid positions and NO freebies.
Ba Ria Orphanage (Govt)
Constructed by Aussie Servicemen during the war, normally accommodates about 70 – 80 children. This is one of the first places we pledged support for and we continue to provide assistance each year. This is a Government assisted orphanage however only receives approximately 30% of the funding they require from the Government.

Binh Trieu Development Centre
Run by the Friends For Street Children Assoc., this centre cares for 40 youngies and amazingly, each day it has about 400 kids and parents come to the centre. If it wasn’t for this daily assistance a large number of the kids would be abandoned to the street, as the parents cannot afford to keep them. Two 11Kg automatic washing machines (total value of approximately $960) have been donated to the FFSCA Binh Trieu Centre. Fans, bedding, desks and dining tables have also been donated. We also pay for the yearly maintenance expenses on their water filtration system.

Hermanus Hospitallers Orphanage
The Hermanus Hospitallers Orphanage on the outskirts of Ba Ria Town. Run by Catholic Nuns, 110 souls are cared for, ranging in age from babies to mid 20’s, about 30 of who are mentally or physically impaired. This orphanage is purely fending for itself. No government funding is provided.

Nui Dat Community Hall
Situated on the old Australian Base of Nui Dat is a poor village. For several years the SAVCG assisted villagers with a food pack containing rice, noodles and soy sauce. During this time we developed a working relationship with the Chairman and members of the Long Phuoc People’s Committee – equivalent of one of our Local Councils.
As a result we provided yearly assistance alternating between the Nui Dat Village and a poor village suggested by The Chairman, Mr Phong, where we would hand out 250 food packs prepared for distribution by the Local Market.
As the average weekly wage for these people is around $2, each food pack makes a big difference containing about a week’s food for one person.
